Impact Assessment and Sustainable Resource Management

TRAINING INTRODUCTION

In an era of environmental degradation, climate change, and resource scarcity, organizations and governments are under increasing pressure to ensure that development initiatives are both environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. Impact Assessment (IA) and Sustainable Resource Management (SRM) are critical tools for evaluating the potential effects of projects and policies on the environment, society, and economy  and for guiding the responsible use of natural resources.

This training program provides a comprehensive understanding of how to design, conduct, and apply impact assessments, and how to integrate sustainability principles into natural resource planning, policy, and practice. Through real-world case studies and practical tools, participants will learn to balance development goals with the long-term stewardship of land, water, biodiversity, and energy.

Training Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles and types of environmental and social impact assessments.
  • Conduct or manage impact assessments using internationally recognized frameworks.
  • Apply sustainability and conservation principles to resource management.
  • Design mitigation strategies and resource-use plans that promote long-term viability.
  • Integrate stakeholder engagement and community participation in IA and SRM processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate environmental and resource outcomes.
